About Me

Kate Roahrig (#100471), LMFT, DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™

Kate received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012 from Pepperdine University. Her deep interest in psychology sparked during her undergraduate studies at Indiana University where she majored in Psychology and worked in substance abuse treatment at Tara Treatment Center. While there, she co-facilitated the men and women’s process groups and worked closely with clients through their recovery using the 12-step model. During her Master’s program, Kate trained as an In-Home Outreach Counselor with Valley Trauma Counseling Center. She conducted therapy with families and individuals of all backgrounds who were involved with the Department of Children and Family Services and suffering from emotional, mood, psychotic, and personality disorders. Kate also worked with Dr. John Briere, PhD and Dr. Randye Semple, PhD studying the genetics of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in patients admitted to the trauma units at LAC+USC Medical Center. She conducted clinical interviews with trauma patients and administered assessments, over a structured time period, to track the potential for and development of PTSD. Kate has worked in residential treatment with mood and personality disorders (specializing in Borderline Personality Disorder) since 2012 using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

As a clinician treating those suffering from overwhelming emotions which lead to feeling life is not worth living, it was imperative to become intensively trained in this effective evidence-based approach for working with debilitating or life-interfering symptoms and experiences. Kate became certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy in 2019 through the Linehan Board of Certification. The structure and modes of treatment in DBT provide a framework from which to effectively identify behaviors we will target and the skill/interventions we will utilize to move toward/maintain your life worth living.

I look forward to us collaborating on your goals and moving through this process together.
